Am I Buying My Friends?
July 2, 2010 by aknight
When I decided to go Greek, I caught a lot of flak from my friends about “buying new friends.” They asked me why would I want to spend all that money just to hang out with new people, and to be honest I didn’t have a good answer at the time.
Now I see that joining a fraternity or sorority isn’t about buying friends, its about keeping an organization that you love financially stable. What you are really paying for when you join a Greek organization is the stuff you do. All the social functions, house, and day to day activities are paid for with dues. I look at all the friends I’ve made since joining Sigma Nu as an extra benefit. I’ve met some of my best friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise if I didn’t join the fraternity. By joining Sigma Nu I have also made a connection with over 200,000 other members across the world. This network will prove to be extremely valuable in my search for law school and future jobs, and its because of my common bond in Sigma Nu.
